“Bodu nikagas”, the big banyan tree
Bodu nikagas, the big banyan tree, is the tallest tree on the island and can be seen from as far as 10 miles away.
Thought to be more than 100 years old, the tree is home to various species of birds and bats. Located within the compound of the Atoll Hospital, this tree is protected by the Heritage Ministry.
